Today in FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days the Buffalo Sabres are featured at the Sabre Noise blog. There have been big changes not only to the Sabres’ front office but to the culture surrounding that hockey club. New owner Terry Pegula has come in and has reinvigorated the organization with his passion for building a winner and his deep pockets. Pegula is demonstrating that he is the type of owner that all fans would want for their team.
The Sabres have retooled their defence with the likes of Christian Ehrhoff (former Shark) and Robyn Regier. Their goaltending is never a question as long as Ryan Miller is there. Their forward group has potential with Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek and newly acquired Ville Leino.
Let’s take a look at how the Sharks did in two games versus the Sabres last year:
2 Games: Sabres won both
The Sharks didn’t seem to matchup well with the Sabres. When the Sharks were in Buffalo they lost 6-3 and when they were at home they lost 3-0. Who was expecting that? But to be honest it seems the Sharks have never done that great versus the Sabres. I remember that when I was at the Sharks @ Sabres game in Buffalo during the 2009-10 season the Sharks lost 3-1. It was the final game before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Let me tell you that Sabres Noise is the perfect name for the Sabres blog because the fans in Buffalo really get into it and are loud! I’ll always remember the Sharks fan at the game with a giant sign that said “JUMBO”. The Sharks are loved in more places than just San Jose.
Here is a snippet of what the great writers at Sabre Noise have to say about their team this year:
If the Buffalo Sabres don’t rival for the Northeast Division banner this year based on the talent they put on their roster, the pure hockey energy that is buzzing in this city right now just might be enough momentum to carry this team until we are the team that prize free agents give the first call too.
Tomorrow the Calgary Flames take the spotlight in FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days. Those pesky Flames and former Shark Miikka Kiprusoff are always a challenge.
