Around the NHL in 30 Days – Carolina Hurricanes

facebooktwitterreddit

So today in FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days we have the focus on the Carolina Hurricanes. The insightful and humorous writers at Cardiac Cane gave a real team effort to preview the Hurricanes’ upcoming campaign. As usual the Canes will be carried on the backs of captain Eric Staal and goaltender Cam Ward this year as veterans Erik Cole and Joe Corvo have parted ways with the club. The loss of those veterans was addressed with the likes of penalty killing specialist Tim Brent and power play quarterback Tomas Kaberle. Don’t forget that this club has a bright future ahead of it with Rookie of the Year Jeff Skinner. He is expected to pick up this year where he left off last year, which was scoring goals and being an offensive threat.

Here is a preview of what the great writers at Cardiac Cane have to say about their team:

"The Leadership: Eric Staal, Brandon Sutter, Tim Gleason, and Chad LaRose each provide their own style of support for the team. I especially like LaRose emerging as a leader and Staal can return to a 80+ point season with added roster support. The numbers could really start to pile up should Skinner and Staal play well as a unit."

I expect the Canes to put up a good fight and make the NHL’s postseason dance this year. Let’s take a look at the lone meeting last year between the Sharks and Canes:

One Game: Sharks lost 5-2 in San Jose

Whoa… not much to say here other than the Sharks were handled quite well by the Canes. It’s true that when the Canes’ Cam Ward is on his game between the pipes there won’t be much getting by him. *Also remember that as a Sharks fan I wanna point out that this game took place in October last year, and we all know that the Sharks had a slow start last year and they didn’t turn it around until later on in the season… so yeah let’s just see if that same result would happen now! We’ll find out this season on February 17, 2012! I have a hunch that the Sharks will have a better showing against the Canes this year.

Check back tomorrow for the FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days’ feature on the Chicago Blackhawks.
