Around the NHL in 30 Days – Montreal Canadiens

Today the Montreal Canadiens are the focus of FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days. Check out A Winning HABit blog for the full preview. Montreal has made some changes to their lineup this year, welcoming established NHL veteran Erik Cole and the sometimes starting goalie, sometimes not, Peter Budaj. The Canadiens have also parted ways with a lot of former players, such as James Wisnewski, Alex Auld, and Roman Hamrlik, to name a few. The Habs are also welcoming back Andrei Markov from another lengthy stay on the injured list.

The hopes are always high in Montreal because it is a true hockey hotbed. Here is a preview of what the great writers at A Winning HABit have to say about their team:

"Montreal is always competitive against our hated rivals, and will put up a fight. With all the drama that happened last season, they should put up a big fight. If Montreal can beat the Bruins, they can beat almost anybody. Will they win their 25th Stanley Cup? No, but after their run in 2009-2010,  we know it’s possible."

In one meeting last year Montreal defeated San Jose by a score of 3-1. Montreal is never a team to take lightly. Just when everyone seems to have written them off they come storming back and grab your attention. Remember that magical playoff run in 2009-10 when they knocked off Washington and Pittsburgh? The rest of the NHL remembers too. I’m thinking that the Canadiens will make the playoffs and do some damage when they’re there.

Check back tomorrow for a new team preview on FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days.
