On behalf of everyone here at Blades of Teal, welcome to 2012! For us hockey fans, it is a big day. We begin the day’s festivities with the 2012 NHL Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers. The two teams will battle for first place in the Atlantic Division.

If you haven’t already, our lead writer, ALH Gist also known as @AmySnow17 on Twitter, will be attending today’s game. So stay tuned as she continues to vlog via YouTube, all of the Winter Classic excitement.

Note: The Winter Classic start time has been changed to 12pm Pacific Time on NBC.

Later on in the day, will be the San Jose Sharks trying to avenge last week’s lost to the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. This game will be the first live sporting event on the newly renamed NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus.)

San Jose came back from two goals down to tie last Wednesday night’s game and had a couple of power plays late in regulation and into overtime to win the game. However, Vancouver prevailed on a tipped shot from the point under two minutes left in overtime.

The Sharks are now 2-9 in their last 11 games against Vancouver, which is a cause for concern. While the team scored on the power play, they did give one up as well. The Canucks will make you pay dearly on the man advantage. A focal point that will be heightened tonight.

While this completes a home and home for the Sharks, Vancouver finished the California swing by defeating Anaheim and losing to Los Angeles. So a huge game tonight in Vancouver, with the chance that San Jose can regain first in the Pacific Division with a victory.
