BoT Gameday: Flames @ Sharks

facebooktwitterreddit

The San Jose Sharks return home for a quick, two game midweek homestand as they will take on their classic Canadian rival, the Calgary Flames at the Shark Tank tonight.

Both teams are coming off losses. Calgary lost 4-1 to the Los Angeles Kings, while the Sharks couldn’t complete the comeback and lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-3. With the Western Conference race being very tight again, points are crucial.

Last week, Calgary reacquired Mike Cammalleri from the Montreal Canadiens and paid off by scoring the lone goal in their loss to the Kings. In San Jose, despite the loss, the Sharks still in good shape. On top of the Pacific, still have four games in hand on Los Angeles. And while the Flames made a big splash in the trade winds last week, speculation continues as to when Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson will pull the trigger on a big deal. Erroneous reports quickly spread all over last night that a major trade was about to take place involving Ryane Clowe. (Of course, it wasn’t true.) But how long until DW moves a goalie?

It’s a battle of netminders with likely Niemi taking on Kiprusoff. A battle that began when the Sharks won their very first game vs. Calgary over 20 years ago. Some playoff matchups, but these two teams just don’t like each other. Big game at the Tank, let’s pucking do this!
