After a lackluster performance on Thursday night, the San Jose Sharks begin a three game, Western Canada road trip that will lead into the All-Star break. This afternoon (yes, it’s a 1pm start) Team Teal will once again go up against the Vancouver Canucks. This will be the final of four meetings between the two teams in the regular season, a San Jose victory today would even the series at two wins each.
The Sharks have lost two of their last three games with the offense struggling again. In their last five games, the team has not scored more than two goals, four times. Schnides and injuries have been mounting up, however, great teams find a way to get the job done. While the team has gone on a dry spell, they have won three out of their last five.
Speaking of the injury front, Tommy Wingels joins the brigade of players on injured reserve. Courtesy of Comcast Sportsnet’s Brodie Brazil, it looks like he injured his arm sometime in the third period. Wingels is in the press box with Ryane Clowe (facial fracture), Jim Vandemeer (upper body), Martin Havlat (lower body), and James Sheppard (knee).
On the good news of injuries, Colin White returned Thursday along with Andrew Desjardins. Desjardins was practicing on the top line at practice, so perhaps some line juggling today.
REMINDER: This game is at 1pm. It will be on Comcast Sportsnet California, also the game will be televised on NHL Network in the United States, and Sportsnet in the Pacific region.
NEED A POST-SHARKS HOCKEY FIX?
A 1pm game ends roughly before 4pm. What on earth will you do with the rest of your time?! If you’re not stuck at work like yours truly will be, I have some hockey options for you. In Stockton, the Sharks ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder will take on the Las Vegas Wranglers. This game is significant as it will be the first game Sharks phenom goaltender, Alex Stalock plays in almost a year. If you don’t quite feel like driving to San Joaquin County, the San Jose State Ice Hockey Club is currently hosting a showcase tournament with some of the best club teams in the West. San Jose State will play Colorado State at 7pm tonight. But games are going on throughout the weekend at Sharks Ice, 10th and Alma in San Jose.
BAY AREA PIGSKIN LOVE
While all of us here at Blades of Teal love our hockey, we can’t help but give kudos and well wishes to the San Francisco 49ers as they play for the NFC Championship this Sunday. I know myself, KingShark, and ALH Gist are Forever Faithful, and while the Sharks won’t be the big sports story this weekend, rest assured we would like to see the Bay Area get some much deserved sports love. Good luck Niners, bring home a sixth Lombardi trophy!
