BoT Gameday: Flames @ Sharks

facebooktwitterreddit

After a very disappointing 5-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, the San Jose Sharks begin a two-game homestand tonight against the Calgary Flames. Team Teal came out of the All-Star break like gangbusters, after a set back in Glendale, are they ready for one of the most grueling stretches in franchise history?

A team dealing with an injury bug can always use rest, unfortunately, the polar opposite will take place for the Sharks. Tonight begins a 31-game journey in a 52 game span. There are only three times that San Jose will have consecutive days off in the regular season. Randy Hahn’s Late Night Confidential tagline of “keep it real, keep it fresh, keep it real fresh” is appropriate. The key will be on call ups to fire up the vets along with any newcomers.

Onto the game tonight. Team Teal got away with what is working for them: creative flow, winning faceoffs, moving pieces around on the power play, hard working. Get those good values back in the game tonight and it will be huge. Per the insiders at the morning skate, sounds like Benn Ferriero will be in the top two lines. Wheteher that’s with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski or Ryane Clowe or Logan Couture it remains to be seen. This is Ferriero’s chance to finally shine in the spot.

RYANE CLOWE’S AD-VISOR
As much as he has publicly said he can’t stand it, perhaps the visor that Ryane Clowe is wearing is helping? In his two games back from a facial fracture injury (and wearing the visor) he has a goal against Dallas and assisted on all three Sharks goals Saturday night in Phoenix. Now I know he will get rid of the plastic shield the very moment he can, but we can say, it’s not hindering his offensive play.

TSN WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY
TSN is in the building tonight for “Wednesday Night Hockey” and the time for the puck drop is 7pm to accomidate the Canadian viewing audience. A quick shout out to legendary Canadian broadcaster Chris Cuthbert ( on Twitter: @CCtsn ) who will call the game tonight on Canada’s sports leader.

OWEN NOLAN HANGING IT UP, DROPPING IT TOO
As I still wipe tears from yesterday’s announcement that Owen Nolan has retired, he will drop the ceremonial puck prior to tonight’s game. I urge you to check out Steph Lee’s blog about Owen Nolan. On behalf of Blades of Teal, we wish you well in retirement. You are the reason why the Sharks have that desire and passion to win.

REMEMBER! 7PM START!
