BoT Gameday: Sharks @ Hurricanes

facebooktwitterreddit

After a wild and crazy 6-5 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Sharks will be apparently suffering jet lag as they arrive on game day for their matchup against a frustrated Carolina Hurricanes squad. A game against the worst team in the East, shouldn’t be a problem, right? Uhhh not so fast my friends.

Sharks head coach Todd McLellan was critical of his goalie, Antii Niemi after letting in 6 goals on 25 shots. “He wasn’t any good… I protect him a lot and talk about the team. He has to be better, flat out has to be better. They scored four goals on net play, rebounds, picking up the garbage, wraparounds, jams. That’s our D men. That’s our low forwards. So everybody has some responsibility, but (Niemi) knows he has to be better.”

It’s been a tough stretch for Nemo. He has allowed 19 goals in his last five games after his record breaking shutout streak. Backup Thomas Greiss has played well, and if Todd is frustrated enough, he might start the German born netminder. But perhaps a spark plug will come from a new piece of the puzzle. Dominic Moore came from Tampa in a deal prior to the puck drop last night. Moore, a journeyman for nearly a decade is playing for his ninth team in less than a decade. A good faceoff guy who can play on the penalty kill and can produce offensive occasionally. Downside is that his plus/minus is a -10 this season.

So a tough overtime loss followed by a game day flight, will the Sharks be ready for today? Let’s pucking do this!
