From The Archives: New Jersey Quick Facts

facebooktwitterreddit

I decided to peruse the past couple of decades worth of Stanley Cup final contenders and kept stumbling across Jersey. Now, I used to pay attention to the Devils for various reasons, and apparently that was a smart decision, because looking back it seems I was cheering for a pretty competent team for quite some time. That being said, I am of the opinion that the Rangers will be winning this series and going to the Stanley Cup final, but I figured I’d offer up some quick facts about the Devils for you as this week’s archives posting. Something of interest with Jersey, in the past 20 years they have made it to the Stanley Cup Final four times, the only four times they’ve ever made the finals actually. Of those four times they have won the Cup three times. Lucky for me one of the years they won was 2003, just days after I graduated High School in my tiny Minnesota town where then Devils’ player Jamie Langenbrunner hails from. That alone got us free booze in Canada our entire stay, thanks Jamie…and don’t worry, it’s legal to drink at 18 in Manitoba haha! Regardless, it was fun being able to watch that series end from the place hockey finds its home. Another fun New Jersey fact, the famous coach Herb Brooks was the head coach for the 92′-93′ season.

Whether or not Jersey is destined for another cup is yet to be seen, but they are a team that is tried and tested and when they get it in their heads they are going to win, they will. So have they decided? We’ll know soon enough won’t we?
