The NHL wasting no time after the Stanley Cup Finals and NHL Awards in Las Vegas released their schedule for the 2012-13 season. The San Jose Sharks will open on the road versus the arch rival Anaheim Ducks on Friday, October 12th. The Sharks next game after the season opener will be the home opener at the Shark Tank on Monday, October 15th as team teal takes on the New York Rangers. This will be the Sharks 22nd season in the NHL in a forth coming campaign that will be interesting to say the very least. The Sharks just as before will play each Pacific Division team six times with three at home and the other three being on the road. The Sharks will face Western Conference opponents in the Northwest and Central Divisions four times each with two at the Shark Tank and the other two on the road.

The Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings will visit the Shark Tank December 20th, March 2nd and 14th. The Detroit Red Wings will enter the Tank on January 9th and February 28th, while the Chicago Blackhawks come into San Jose on Tuesday November 20th in their annual pre-Thanksgiving get together, and also on February 7th. Other key home dates include St Louis Blues on November 1st and January 3rd. The arch rival Ducks come to the Tank on November 24th, February 9th and March 25th. The Vancouver Canucks invade the Tank on December 13th and April 1st.

Other home dates of note: Philadelphia Flyers on January 5th; Boston Bruins on January 31st; Winnipeg Jets on February 26th; Toronto Maple Leafs on March 5th; and the New Jersey Devils on March 28th. The final home game of the 2012-13 season will be Sunday, April 7th versus the Dallas Stars. The Sharks close the regular season with a three game road trip which goes through Nashville, Columbus and Phoenix. The final day of the regular season is Saturday April 13th with the post season slated to begin four days later on Wednesday April 17th. The Sharks will have a nine game home stand from February 26th through March 14th, which will no doubt come at a convenient time. This nine game home stand will follow up the annual (and FINAL EVER) Tennis Road trip which will this time be only seven games, from February 12th through the 23rd. The Blades of Teal Second Annual Tweet-Up will be announced during the season.

The Sharks also will play six pre-season games starting September 26th against the Canucks in Vancouver. The Sharks will host three pre-season games versus Phoenix (Sept. 27th), Anaheim (Sept 29th), and Vancouver (October 3rd).

The NHL drops the puck officially on Thursday, October 11th with four games. Boston at Philadelphia; Ottawa at Montreal; St Louis at Colorado; and Vancouver at Calgary. The Champion LA Kings open at home Friday, October 12th hosting the New York Rangers. The Winter Classic is slated for January 1st, 2013 as the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Detroit Red Wings at Michigan Stadium at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (approximately 45 miles due west of Detroit). The NHL is not going to play any games in Europe this season, season openers or otherwise. The All Star Game will be in Columbus on January 27th.

The only thing standing in the way of all of this is the Collective Bargaining Agreement which expires on September 15th. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman reportedly expects the talks to begin soon (per TSN.CA)…
