Today the Worcester Sharks face off against their division rivals, the Manchester Monarchs for the eight of 12 scheduled meetings for the season. The Sharks play hosts to their rivals for the third time this season. In the two previous match ups at the DCU Center, the Sharks defeated the Monarchs by a single goal.  The first contest was back on November 4, 2012 that featured a 1-0 shootout win with Sharks Captain John McCarthy scoring the deciding goal in the shootout round.  Their second meeting in Worcester was right after the Christmas break on December 28th when the Sharks beat the Monarchs 2-1. In that game, Sharks Matsumoto scored the game winning tally and had knotted his 7th goal of the season.  As it stands now, the Worcester Sharks currently hold a 5-2 lead on the season series vs. the Manchester Monarchs.

The Sharks have lost three straight games (0-2-0-1) while the Monarchs have lost two straight games headed into tonight’s matchup. While Worcester leads Manchester by four points in the Atlantic Division.

As the Sharks enter into tonights contest against the Monarchs, they have a 19-15-1-3 record with 42 points to their credit.  In addition, they are current position in second place of the AHL’s Atlantic Division thru 38 games played and are currently the fifth seed overall in the Eastern Conference.  For the visiting Manchester Monarchs, they are sitting in fourth place with a 17-17-2-2 record in the Atlantic Division with 38 points thru 38 games.  Furthermore, the Monarchs are on the outside looking in with a 10th place overall spot in the East.
