This year Patrick Marleau has stormed out of the gate scoring two goals at all three home openers the Sharks have played in which includes the Flames, the Oilers, and most importantly their own last night against the Phoenix Coyotes.  In that contest against the Coyotes, Marleau scored the game winning goal after the Sharks came back from a two goal deficit late in the third period.

Patrick Marleau has three multigoal games, the first player to pull that off in a season’s first three games since Peter Stastny of the Quebec Nordiques in 1982-83.

Marleau’s six goals is currently the most in the NHL this season, one more than Marian Hossa of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Sharks Captain Joe Thornton is leading the NHL in points (9) and assists (8) and 1 goal.  Of those 9 points, Thornton was a major contributor on five of Marleau’s six goals.

“Joe made a great play coming back,” Marleau said. “He picked up a loose puck, and I kind of just took off, and he found Pav, and Pav was able to slide it over to me.  I just tried to get it away as quick as possible.”

Patrick Marleau will try and extend his hot goal scoring streak against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday at HP Pavilion.  That contest has a 1:00p PST puck drop.
