Rivalry To Be Renewed- The San Jose Sharks will be taking on the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals. The NHL will announce the schedule for the second round upon the completion of two Game 7’s to be played Monday in the Eastern Conference Monday (Toronto-Boston; New York Rangers- Washington). The Sharks learned of the matchup when the Detroit Red Wings shocked the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in Game 7 of their Western Conference Quarter Final Match-up Sunday evening at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Detroit Red Wings also advance to the second round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs where they will be facing the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Sharks and Kings faced off in the post season during the first round of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Sharks taking that series four games to two. The Kings, who were the underdog that season have since won the Stanley Cup last season and will be favored in this series. Games One and Two, and if necessary Games Five and Seven will be at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Sharks will host Games Three, Four and if necessary Game Six at the Shark Tank. The Sharks haven’t played since May 7th when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime, securing their first ever playoff series sweep win in the franchises 22 year history. The Kings meanwhile defeated the St Louis Blues 2-1 Saturday night in Game Six of their Quarter Final Series to clinch that series four games to two. The Kings won the final four games of the series after dropping Games’ One and Two in St Louis.

Head to Head in 2013- The Sharks and Kings split four games between each other during the lockout shortened season. Each team won both games on their home ice. The Sharks took the Kings at the Shark Tank 4-3 on March 14th, and 3-2 on April 16th in a shootout. The Kings handled the Sharks at the Staples Center 5-2 on March 16th, and 3-2 on the final day of the regular season April 27th. This could be one of the most intensive playoff series in the history of both franchises. The Sharks are looking for their first even Stanley Cup Championship, and the Kings looking to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Once the NHL announces the schedule for the upcoming series it will be posted right here.
