When the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings play tonight, the Sharks will be without one of their top forwards in Brent Burns. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Burns was injured against the Calgary Flames and will be sitting this game out. Coach Todd McLellan explained to the Mercury News why the top-line forward would be sitting out:

"He got hit in the teeth — well, he doesn’t have teeth so I guess in the gums — the other night and they’re bothering him right now. He’ll be out tonight and hopefully he’s ready to go when we get to Boston."

In his place on the top line will be rookie Freddie Hamilton, who will be making his NHL debut. Expect Joe Thornton to play out of his mind tonight as he tries to create time and space for the under-seasoned but talented combination of Hamilton and Tomas Hertl.

San Jose called Hamilton up from the AHL after finding out the Burns would be unable to go, and simply slotted the youngster in on the top unit. If worked for Hertl, so why not give it a shot with Hamilton?

Hamilton has a single goal to his credit through two games in the minors.
