The NHL didn’t see fit to suspend (or even talk t0) Zdeno Chara after his high hit on Tommy Wingels of the San Jose Sharks. Despite the fact that the puck had been off of his stick for two seconds before the contact, and that the contract was a forearm to the head didn’t matter to Brendan Shanahan and his cronies.

The his in question, in case you’re curious.

That’s the bad news for the Sharks. That the NHL has absolutely no consistency when it comes to suspending players. That’s not news though, nor does it effect whether or not Wingels will be available when San Jose takes on the Montreal Canadiens this evening.

As far as that goes, NHL.com is reporting that he’ll be a game-time decision. Coach Todd McLellan spoke to the site this morning and had this to say about Wingels:

"We’ll make a decision here once he’s reviewed by the doctors and the training staff. He skated today and he’s feeling pretty good, so we’re hoping he can play."

That would be a rather big boost for San Jose since it will still be without Brent Burns. Burns is still in California after taking a stick to the mouth.
