San Jose Sharks Lose In Last Minute To Columbus Blue Jackets

In an incredibly intense and closely matched game, the San Jose Sharks lost in the last few minutes of regulation to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It all came to an end when Mark Letestu of the Blue Jackets scored on Antti Niemi with 20.7 seconds left in the third period. After a goal had been called off, Sharks fans thought the team had caught a break. But if there’s something the Sharks should know, it’s not to relax until that final buzzer blows.

This is the third straight loss for the Sharks after starting the season off so well. But in all honestly, Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves to prevent the Sharks from taking the lead. That’s pretty impressive. The problem wasn’t getting the puck to the net, it was getting it past the goaltender.

The Sharks, prior to tonight’s game, had a -6 rating in the third period. This is unacceptable and explains why tonight’s loss in the third wasn’t as surprising as it should have been. The Sharks have scored first in six of the last eight games, but hold only a 4-3-1 record. It seems that one of the teams biggest struggles continues to be blowing leads. But again, it’s still early and there’s a lot of hockey to play.
