Overview:

The Battle of California continues tonight as the San Jose Sharks play host to the Anaheim Ducks for their first home game of the season. After a decisive 5-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center on Wednesday night, the Sharks look to bring that confidence factor on home ice and build on the win.

Ducks: Nate Thompson (shoulder surgery) is out.

Keys to the Game

1) Containing the Offense

The Ducks are a rush team and a great transition team with the likes of Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. Slow them down. Shut down their star players. Make sure they have the puck as little as possible. The Sharks did a great job of limiting the Los Angeles Kings‘ offense Wednesday night. We’ll see if they keep that up tonight.

2) Be Physical & Disciplined

More from Blades of Teal

Obviously, there’s going to be bad blood in tonight’s game as well. There will be lots and lots of hits. Things will get physical, which is great. You can outplay them physically, but also keep your composure. I thought that was another area the Sharks were great at against the Kings. They were physical. They stuck up for each other when needed. Now they just have to stay out of the penalty box as much as possible. While their PK was outstanding three nights ago in killing off all six penalties, I still think they took a little many. You can only put a team on the power play so much in a game until you let one in short-handed.
