San Jose Barracuda Handed Three-Straight Losses

The San Jose Barracuda are struggling just like their parent club in the San Jose Sharks. Maybe the the losing is contagious around the building these days, but whatever is going on, both teams had rough weeks.

The Barracuda began their week by dropping a tough, hard-fought 3-2 game against the San Diego Gulls. The recently demoted Barclay Goodrow scored a goal in his first game with the Barracuda, while Nikita Jevpalovs added his second of the season. Troy Grosenick got the start in net, and played solid in making 25 saves, but he was still unable to find his first victory of the year.

Melker Karlsson was able to return to action against San Diego, and he would add an assist in San Jose’s 6-2 drubbing at the hands of the Bakersfield Condors last week. Karlsson was recalled by the Sharks following the game as he was finally able to recover from his lower-body injury that kept him out of action for the first month of the season.

Nothing went too well for the Barracuda on this night as Aaron Dell was pulled in favor of Grosenick after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Grosenick didn’t fare much better allowing three goals on 22 shots as the Barracuda defense was a mess.

Wrapping up their week, San Jose dropped another tough one as they fell to the Ontario Reign by a 2-1 margin last night. Jeremy Langlois scored the lone goal for the Barracuda, his second consecutive game in which he’s found the back of the net. Langlois has three goals and one assist on the season.

The Barracuda have had a tough time establishing any sort of consistency, sound familiar Sharks fans, as the team has been raided by the NHL club with a variety of different call-ups. The Barracuda are in the same position as the Sharks in needing to find some sort of identity. San Jose needs to find some additional scoring help as Micheal Haley and Bryan Lerg are tied for the team lead in scoring with just six points.

That’s not getting it done on the offensive end as San Jose seems to fall on the short end of the stick in many one-goal games.

The Barracuda return to action with back-to-back games against San Diego beginning tomorrow before traveling to Bakersfield to take on the Condors mid-week. Currently, San Jose is in the midst of a season-long seven-game road trip.
