The San Jose Barracuda built a season-high five-game winning streak, but unfortunately, that streak came to an end against the San Antonio Rampage, top affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, on Sunday afternoon.

However, San Jose was able to pick up a valuable point during the 1-0 overtime loss to the Rampage, and they bounced back by recording a big 2-1 overtime victory over the San Diego Gulls, top affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, last night.

It was a big victory for the Barracuda who now sit in second place within the Pacific Division with a 17-10-3-3 record with 40 points and a points percentage of .606 after going 8-1-1-0 in their last 10 contests.

San Jose played a tight-checking game against San Diego last night with the game hanging in the balance after a scoreless 40 minutes of play. The Barracuda struck first behind defenseman Mark Cundari, who netted his third goal of the year off a feed from Nikita Jevpalovs.

The Gulls would send the game into overtime just two minutes later, but it was the Barracuda who would have the final say behind another blue liner. Karl Stollery converted a perfectly executed two-on-one with Jevpalovs for his third of the season as San Jose emerged with the two points. Troy Grosenick picked up his ninth victory of the year, making 24 saves, and he’s now 5-0-1 in his last six starts.

Before embarking on their current three-game road trip, San Jose wrapped up a four-game home stand by hosting San Antonio for a pair of games. In the first meeting, the Barracuda extended their season-high winning streak to five games as San Jose rolled to a 6-4 victory.

After allowing the first goal of the game, the Barracuda would score four consecutive goals to break the game open. First, Bryan Lerg netted his eighth goal of the season to tie things up before Barclay Goodrow’s 14th goal of the year would give San Jose the lead 22 seconds later.

Then, Micheal Haley would score a pair of goals to extend the Barracuda’s lead to three. The Rampage would answer back, but Nikolay Goldobin’s 11th goal of the year, and fifth in three games, would re-establish their three-goal cushion.

Ryan Carpenter’s sixth goal of the year would wrap up the scoring for San Jose as some late goals from San Antonio would make the score line closer than it should have been.

The following afternoon, the Barracuda saw their winning streak snapped as the Rampage scored the lone goal of the game in overtime as San Antonio took home a 1-0 victory. Aaron Dell played well between the pipes making 26 saves, but the San Jose offense was unable to help him out after scoring six times the night before.
