San Jose will open their second round playoff series on Friday night regardless of who the opponent will be.

While the San Jose Sharks still await their opponent in the Western Conference semifinals, team teal now knows when they will take the ice again.

The NHL released their second round schedule for these playoffs, and the Sharks are set to take part in Game 1 on Friday night. The only question that has yet to be determined is the location of the first game.

If the favored Anaheim Ducks take Game 7 at home later tonight, San Jose will travel back to Southern California to start another series against a division rival.

However, if the Nashville Predators are able to make it four consecutive Game 7 defeats for the Ducks on home ice, team teal will host Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals at SAP Center.

As you can see below, the first four games of the series will take place every other day beginning with Game 1 on Friday night. However, it’s in Game 5 where the two scenarios differentiate.

In a potential series against the Ducks, there would be two days off in between games four and five, and then a back-to-back scenario in games five and six should it be necessary. With the physicality that series would surely bring, it would be interesting to see how those teams would respond on back-to-back nights in a close out game.

If the Predators are indeed the opponent, the series would be every other night before enjoying two days off before a potential Game 7 matchup if that’s how it all shook out.

Needless to say, both scenarios offer plenty of intrigue, and the Sharks will have to guard against any rust in their game as they will have a full week off from their Game 5 victory over the Kings until their Game 1 start on Friday night.
