The San Jose Sharks have a chance to win the Western Conference once again tonight in Phoenix. However the Sharks are going to need a little help from the Chicago Blackhawks as well if they are going to secure the number one seed in the west for the second consecutive year.
Both the Blackhawks and Sharks each have 111 points. The Hawks currently own the tiebreaker so for the Sharks to gain the number one seed, they need a few things to happen.
1. They need to either win/tie Phoenix tonight
2. If the Sharks tie Phoenix or lose in OT, Detroit must defeat Chicago in Regulation.
3. Sharks win and Chicago loss/tie gives the Sharks the Western Conference.
If the Sharks lose in regulation they will lock up the #2 seed and either be paired against the LA Kings or Nashville Predators in the first round of the playoffs. If they lock up the #1 seed, they will host the Colorado Avalanche in round #1.
