Today the Worcester Sharks faceoff against the Connecticut Whale for a rare Wednesday matchup in the battle of the fins in Hartford, CT at the XL Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum in downtown Hartford.  In addition, tonight’s matchup marks their 500th game in franchise history.  Furthermore, it’s their second of three games of the mini road trip away from the DCU Center.  Worcester is coming off of a very physical and hard fought win against the Manchester Monarchs that move the Sharks into sole possession of first place in the AHL’s Atlantic Division.  The game winning goal was scored by Worcester forward #51 Brodie Reid as the Sharks came away with 3-2 victory.  Meanwhile the Connecticut Whale were recently shutout by the Albany Devils by a final score of 1-0 are ridding a two game loosing skid.  As of today, the Whale are currently positioned in third place of the AHL’s Northeast Division and 12th overall in the Eastern Conference thru 23 games of 10-11-1-0 record with just under a 0.500 winning percentage.  As for the Worcester Sharks, they are the current top seed holder of the Atlantic Division and third place overall in the East with a 12-8-1-2 record that includes a 0.587 winning percentage.  Entering into the contest, Worcester is still searching for their first win of the season against the Whale who have won the last two meetings in which both were played at the DCU Center.  Their most recent lost to Connecticut was back on November 17th that featured 2-1 Whale victory.  Also going into tonight’s contest the Worcester Sharks are currently ranked 13th in the AHL on PP (16.9%) and 24th on PK (80.4%) while the Connecticut Whale are ranked 14th on PP (16.8%) and 28th on PK (78.9%), this should make it an interesting contest between the two teams.  Tonight forward Tim Kennedy of the Sharks will be putting his eight game point streak on the line tonight who currently leads Worcester’s offense with 26 points that includes 12 goals, 14 assists, and is plus 5 on the season.  For Connecticut, forward Kris Newbury is leading the offensive charge with 21 points, including seven goals, 14 assists, and is the only player on the Whale’s roster who is averaging a point per game thru the 21 games he has played.  The puck is set to drop at 7:00p EST, which can seen on AHL Live for those viewers who have an account or can be heard on the radio and online at WTAG News/Talk 580 and 94.9 FM.  Let’s Go Sharks!!!!!!!!
