Worcester Sharks Vs. Manchester Monarchs Game Day Report

Today the Worcester Sharks are in action as they take on their rivals the Manchester Monarchs in Manchester, NH at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  Tonight’s contest makes it the fifth meeting of the season between these two Atlantic Division foes as the Sharks have a 3-1 season series lead on the Monarchs.  Before the Christmas break, the Worcester Sharks faced the Providence Bruins in a what was called a wild wild west shootout affair which featured 72 total shots.  That game featured nine goals in which Worcester’s forward Jon Matsumoto knotted two, one which became the game winner that he scored with 10.5 seconds left in the final period of the contest as the Sharks came away with a 5-4 victory.  For the host team, the Monarchs took on the Portland Pirates in which Manchester converted three times on the power play as they beat the Pirates by a final score of the 5-3.  As the two rivals go into tonight’s game, Worcester’s record is 14-10-1-2 as they sit in third place in the AHL’s Atlantic division and sixth overall in the Eastern Conference with a 0.574 winning percentage.  While the Monarchs record is 13-12-2-2 and are positioned just behind the Sharks in fourth place in the division and ninth place overall with a 0.517 winning percentage in the Eastern Conference.  The puck is set to drop at 7:00p EST at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  Tonight’s contest can be heard on WTAG News/Talk 580 and 94.9 FM and for AHL Live subscribers on their website.
