Report: San Jose Extends Todd McLellan

San Jose, CA–According to TSN, the San Jose Sharks have reportedly signed Head Coach Todd McLellan to a contract extension.  The organization has yet to make an official announcement to the length of the extension.  Stay tuned for more details….

Since arriving in San Jose, Todd McLellan has recorded a 220-108-48 record over a five year span with the Sharks.  Included in that time span, he’s lead the San Jose to their first President’s Trophy in franchise history, three Pacific Division titles, and back to back Western Conference Finals (2010, 2011).

In the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Coach McLellan was the first head coach in the organizations history to lead a team to it’s first ever playoff sweep over the Vancouver Canucks.  After that, Todd and the Sharks took the defending cup champions the LA Kings in WCSF’s to deciding game seven in which San Jose ended up being eliminated by a 2-1 final.

Prior to coming to San Jose, Todd have spent the three years as Mike Babcocks understudy with the Detroit Red Wings.  In a seven year span as both assistant and head coach, Todd McLellan has won one Stanley Cup (2008 with the Red Wings), three President Trophies, (2009 SJS, 2008, 2006 with DET), four Western Conference Finals (2011,2010 SJS, and 2007, 2008 DET) and four divisional titles.

San Jose Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson had this say about the job that Todd McLellan has done for the organization:

“I think they’ve done an excellent job. All of the components of it,” Wilson said. “Larry and Jimmy coming in, it makes us a complete staff that not only allows us to play the way we want to play today, it helps the younger players get ready to play. I think they did an excellent job. Very proud of the job they did.”

This means that Todd McLellan’S coaching staff will also be returning for 2013-2014 campaign.  His staff includes, associate coach Larry Robinson, assistant coaches Jim Johnson and Jay Woodcroft, and video coordinator Brett Heimlich.
