Tommy Wingels is not on the bench for the San Jose Sharks after taking a high and heavy hit from Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins. The Sharks haven’t made any announcements regarding Wingels, but it doesn’t look particularly good right now. Chara extended his elbow and arm on the check, and it seems to have reminded folks of a few other hits that have been considered suspendable this year.
#SJSharks are skating (and rotating) w/ 11 forwards at the moment as @TommyWingels is questionable to return.

For those of you keeping track at home, that’s six Sharks that would normally be in the lineup on the shelf. As far as forwards go, San Jose is already down Martin Havlat, Brent Burns, Adam Burish and Raffi Torres.
Injury perspective: At this moment #sjsharks are missing 6 guys in lineup that would have been starting opening night.

San Jose has been forced to shake up their lines a bit in light of the Wingels injury. We’ll keep an eye out for a video or update and let you know what’s going on with Wingels as soon as possible.
The Sharks would obviously love to have the youngster back in the lineup tonight, but teams aren’t messing around with the whole hit to the head thing these days. Better to air on the side of caution.
UPDATE: Here’s a screen cap of the hit. Pretty clear what the issue is.
