It’s a mere formality, but the San Jose Sharks could punch their ticket to the postseason tonight when they take on the Flames in Calgary.

If the Sharks gain at least one point against the Flames, and either the Coyotes or Stars lose in regulation in their respective games, the Sharks will have clinched a spot in the playoffs.

San Jose has made the postseason eight years in a row, and given that they currently sit atop the Pacific Division with 100 points, it will soon be nine consecutive appearances. However, we all know that it’s more than just a playoff spot they’re chasing; despite their consistent success, the Sharks have yet to win a Stanley Cup in the history of their franchise.

Stuart Returns

Defenseman Brad Stuart has not played since the Olympic break thanks to an upper body injury, but he has now been activated off injured reserve and is expected to be in the lineup against the Flames. David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reported that Stuart will be paired with Justin Braun on defense.

Stuart has three goals and six assists in 51 games this season.
