In Game 1, the San Jose Sharks surprised everyone by jumping out to a 5-0 lead against the Los Angeles Kings, but they probably shouldn’t expect for the same thing to happen in Game 2.
If what happened in the third period in Game 1 was any indication, the Kings will eventually clamp down and get their fair share in a series that was hyped to be physical and tight. The Kings scored three goals in the third, cutting the Sharks’ lead to 5-3 before an empty net goal sealed the victory for San Jose. But obviously, the Sharks know that the Kings will not simply bow down, and that they must win four games to win the series, not just one.
Game 1 was characterized by its physicality — 121 hits total were dished out — and Game 2 should be no different. Hockey by nature is a punishing sport, but between two interstate rivals with serious dislike for each other, it can be straight-up brutal.
The Sharks will look to replicate what they did in Game 1: get production from all four lines and have everyone involved in the action. Six different players scored the Sharks’ goals on Thursday night.
