After placing Adam Burish on waivers last week without being picked up, and now being sent down to Worcester, Burish is on the minds of everyone following the San Jose Sharks season.
These moves aren’t too surprising, seeing as Burish has few points this campaign and spends too much time in the penalty box. Coach Todd McLellan clarified management’s reasons behind the move:
"“It’s where we are as an organization. We made a commitment to bringing some younger players in, and at this point with Adam’s position and where he is in the lineup, we are exploring some younger possibilities there,” McLellan said. “It’s not a reflection on Adam by any means. He’s probably played his best hockey for us at this point in the season… He’ll get an opportunity to move on and play somewhere else. It’s our continued commitment to giving some younger players an opportunity.”"
Not surprising as well is McLellan’s mention of giving younger players more of a chance to shine. I mean it has been what the entire management staff has been saying since the playoff loss last season.
Burish had a style of hockey that could easily be used on another team. The problem is his currently salary cap being over a million dollars. No one seemed to want to pick him up yet, but it his highly unlikely that his NHL days are over.
