While the San Jose Sharks missed the postseason, their AHL-affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, made the Calder Cup Playoffs. Things didn’t start out too well for Worcester however as they dropped the first two games at home to the Hershey Bears, the development affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
Facing a potential sweep, Worcester staved off elimination with a 4-1 win on Wednesday night behind Troy Grosenick who made 27 saves in the victory in his professional playoff debut. Sharks fans may remember Grosenick as he made 45 saves in his San Jose debut on Nov. 16 in a 2-0 shutout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Also featuring in the victory for Worcester was Chris Tierney who had a goal and an assist. Tierney had a solid final month of the season in San Jose, slotting in on the Sharks third line. Tierney registered five goals and nine assists over the final month-and-a-half for San Jose.
Game four is set for tonight and if Worcester can win again, it will set up a winner take all game five in Hershey on Sunday.
With some of the young players featuring in the Worcester lineup, San Jose would like them to get as much playoff experience as possible.
