The Worcester Sharks, San Jose’s top development affiliate, were looking to extend their first round Calder Cup playoff series against the Hershey Bears. Unfortunately for Worcester, it was not their night.
Hershey defeated Worcester by a 10-4 margin and won the first round series three games to one. With the loss, the Sharks run in Worcester has also come to an end after nine season as the Sharks are moving their top development affiliate to San Jose next season.
It was a rough night for starting goaltender Troy Grosenick who allowed three goals on four shots before getting pulled midway through the first period. Grosenick would be called back into duty in the third after his replacement Aaron Dell allowed six goals on 32 Hershey shots. It will be interesting to see if Grosenick, who made two starts in San Jose this season, can push for a role with the Sharks who are in need of goaltending.
Now that the Worcester playoff run is over, the offseason officially begins for the franchise. Beginning in 2015-16, the Sharks’ top development affiliate will play their games at SAP Center and be known as the Barracuda. This should help the main club as management will be able to scout the younger players on a more frequent basis, and call ups will be made easier by the fact that the players will already be in San Jose.
