The San Jose Sharks trimmed their training camp roster by 14 on Monday afternoon. Headlining the group of players assigned to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda are defensemen Julius Bergman and Patrick McNally and forward Nikita Jevpalovs.
McNally is a particularly surprising cut this early in camp. Many had the 23-year-old rearguard pegged as a potential dark-hose candidate to push for a roster spot this season. San Jose currently has two vacancies on its blue line, and McNally was competing with Dylan DeMelo and Mirco Mueller – both of whom are still on the roster – for one of them.
Here’s the full list of players cut:
Vincent Arseneau – F
Chris Crane – F
Mike DiPaolo – F
Daniel Doremus – F
Petter Emanuelsson – F
Adam Helewka – F
Nikita Jevpalovs – F
Jeremy Langlois – F
Trevor Parkes – F
Julius Bergman – D
Danny Federico – D
Patrick McNally – D
Rick Pinkston – D
Joakim Ryan – D
The San Jose Sharks now have 41 players remaining in camp. They’re set to open their preseason exhibition schedule by traveling up to British Columbia for a pair of games against the Vancouver Canucks tonight and tomorrow night.
