San Jose Sharks Prospects Report: Labanc Garners Honors

The San Jose Sharks are well into their 2015-16 season and so are many of their top prospects throughout their organization. Earlier this week, one Sharks youngster took home player of the week honors for his recent play. Kevin Labanc, a 2014 sixth-round pick (171st overall), was named the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Player of the Week after he recorded nine points in three games last week.

Labanc registered two goals and seven assists with a plus-three rating, headlined by a five-point performance (one goal and four assists) in leading his Barrie Colts to a 7-2 victory over the Sudbury Wolves. Thus far, Labanc has posted five goals and 10 assists (1.15 points per game) in 13 games with a plus-four rating. Last season, Labanc put up huge numbers with 31 goals and 76 assists (107 points) with a plus-13 rating.

Dylan Sadowy Suspended

It wasn’t all good news for San Jose Sharks prospects this week. Dylan Sadowy, San Jose’s third-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, was suspended four games stemming from an incident in a recent game. Sadowy, who plays for the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL, punched opponent Mike McLeod from the bench after McLeod had just scored a shootout goal. Sadowy was given a game misconduct, which carries an automatic two-game suspension which the league decided to double. You can view video of the incident here.

Currently, Sadowy is tied for ninth in the OHL in scoring with nine goals and eight assists with a plus-four rating in 12 games played thus far. This comes off the heels of his best season with the Spirit last year when he scored 42 goals and 32 assists in 65 games played with a plus-five rating and 66 penalty minutes.

Jeremy Roy Continues To Shine

The Sharks got one of the steals of the 2015 NHL Draft when they were able to select defenseman Jeremy Roy, who many had projected as a first-round pick, with the first selection of the second round. Roy is an offensive-minded defenseman who has continued to post nice numbers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Roy is third in the QMJHL in scoring for defensemen with 18 points (five goals and 13 assists) in 14 games played.

Last year, Roy tied for 10th in the league in scoring by defensemen with five goals and 38 assists in just 46 games played. His 0.93 points per game tied him for second in the league last season.

Recently, Roy was named to the Team QMJHL roster for the 2015 CHL Canada Russia Series. Needless to say, it won’t be long until Roy is donning a teal Sharks uniform.
