San Jose Sharks Weekly Roundup

The San Jose Sharks wrapped up the month of October, which featured plenty of highs and lows for the Sharks. San Jose raced out to a 4-0 record, but then faltered by losing five of their next six games to close out the month. The Sharks also had to deal with a rash of injuries, but managed to stay afloat as more players returned to the lineup this week.

In case you missed anything from this past week, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered in the latest weekly roundup:

– At the beginning of the week, San Jose was glad to welcome back a few familiar faces from injury as Joonas Donskoi and Ben Smith were able to return to the ice.

– The Sharks opened November with a thrilling, 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche yesterday afternoon, as San Jose was able to salvage a split of their two-game, back-to-back road trip to Colorado and Dallas over the weekend. Brent Burns scored two goals, including a go-ahead goal with under two minutes remaining in the third to help the Sharks head home with two points.

– Just one day earlier, San Jose was victimized by a pair of former Sharks as Antti Niemi and Jason Demers helped the Dallas Stars to a 5-3 win over the Sharks on Saturday afternoon. The silver lining for San Jose was the fact they scored two power play goals and one shorthanded one, although they did allow Demers to score shorthanded as well.

More from Blades of Teal

– The Sharks ran into one of their former nemesis as Pekka Rinne stood tall in defeating San Jose by a 2-1 margin last Wednesday night. The Nashville Predators emerged with a hard-fought, tight-checking game that could have gone either way.

– To this point, Joel Ward has been a great signing fit in San Jose as he leads the Sharks with seven goals to this point after a pair of goals in each game over the weekend. Ward has exceeded all expectations and has been a mainstay on San Jose’s second line.

– Considering the amount of firepower and talent the Sharks possess, it was disappointing to see their special teams faltering as much as they have in the early going. San Jose was able to net a couple of power play goals over the weekend, and maybe, just maybe, that’s what this team needed to kickstart their productivity with the man advantage.

– Finally, two Sharks prospects made headlines for completely different reasons as Kevin Labanc was named the CHL Player of the Week, while Dylan Sadowy was suspended for four games after punching an opponent from the bench.
