The San Jose Barracuda continued their improved play of late as they picked up a pair of key wins last weekend at SAP Center. Spearheading the efforts for the Barracuda was Barclay Goodrow who was an absolute monster in those games.
For his efforts, Goodrow was named as the AHL Players of the Week after amassing four goals, three assists and a plus-seven rating as the Barracuda picked up two key victories to begin their December schedule. Goodrow now leads the Barracuda with eight goals in 13 games.
It all kicked off on Saturday, Dec. 5 when the Barracuda hosted the Stockton Heat, top affiliate of the Calgary Flames. San Jose would get off to a strong start, before holding on for a 5-3 victory over the Heat.
John McCarthy opened the scoring for San Jose about three minutes in as he deposited a rebound for his third goal of the season. It didn’t take long for the Barracuda to extend their advantage as leading scorer Ryan Carpenter scored his second goal of the year on the power play as San Jose had a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the contest.

The Barracuda would establish a 3-0 lead as Julius Bergman scored his second of the season, but the Heat would answer back immediately as Kenny Agostino scored the first of his two goals on the night to cut the deficit to two at the end of one period of action.
Goodrow and Agostino would trade second period goals as San Jose held a two-goal advantage into the third, where goaltender Aaron Dell would take over the game. Dell was forced to make 20 saves, 43 for the game, as the Heat outshot the Barracuda by a 21-3 margin. He gave up one goal with just under four minutes remaining, but the Heat would get no closer as Jeremy Langlois’ empty-net goal would seal the victory.
Goodrow, who took home first star honors with one goal and three assists, and Carpenter (one goal and two assists) led the offensive attack for San Jose, but it was Dell who was the main story as the Barracuda were outshot 46-18 for the game.
Less than 24 hours later, the Barracuda were back at it against the Bakersfield Condors, affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. This would be a high-scoring affair that would see the Barracuda blow three different leads, before securing a 7-6 overtime victory behind a hat trick from Goodrow.
The Condors would strike first with a shorthanded tally, but then, it was all Barracuda for the rest of the first. San Jose would strike four times to a hold a 4-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes. Petter Emanuelsson scored twice, while Daniel Doremus and Mark Cundari also lit the lamp as the Barraucda appeared to have complete control of this game.
However, Bakersfield would answer back with three straight goals to open the second against San Jose netminder Troy Grosenick, but then Goodrow would start to make his imprint on the game. Goodrow would net his first of the game just 41 seconds after the Condors had tied the game to give the Barracuda a 5-4 lead.
Once again, the Condors evened the score, but it was Goodrow who had the answer at the 16:04 mark, giving San Jose a 6-5 lead. But it would not last as Andrew Miller tied the game at six for Bakersfield with less than two minutes remaining in the contest.
Luckily for the Barracuda, Goodrow was there to finish the game off, scoring 23 seconds into overtime to cap off his first career professional hat trick. San Jose had six players record multi-point games in this one as the Barracuda have now won four of their past five games as they start to build some momentum.
