The San Jose Sharks are starting to cook now as they completed another undefeated week, extending their winning streak to five games following a thrilling overtime victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
The Sharks have already surpassed their December win total of four during their recent stretch which has seen them elevated into a playoff spot in the tightly contested Pacific Division.
San Jose has been boosted by an offense that has found their groove recently as the Sharks now sit fifth in the league in goals per game (2.84) and power play percentage (21.5 percent).

– When the Sharks hosted the Stars on Saturday, it offered a chance for fans to see and up-close comparison of the past two San Jose netminders as Antti Niemi squared off against Martin Jones. It’s pretty interesting to see how both have put up fairly similar numbers this season.

– While their five-game win streak has been a welcome sight for Sharks fans, San Jose still finds themselves in a similar position as last year when they failed to make the postseason for the first time in more than a decade.
– It was a week of returns for Sharks’ opponents as Todd McLellan made his first appearance at SAP Center since his departure this offseason. Fortunately for San Jose, two perfect shootout goals from Joe Pavelski and Joonas Donskoi sealed a 2-1 victory for the Sharks.
– With the midpoint of the season passing by, Raffi Torres’ 41-game suspension came to an end. With that in mind, the Sharks assigned Torres to the San Jose Barracuda on a conditioning assignment to work himself into game shape.
– Speaking of the Barracuda, they’ve been on their own roll of late as they rattled off their own five-game win streak and have picked up a point in seven consecutive games.
– San Jose began their week with consecutive road games in Canada against the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets. The Sharks were able to survive three power play goals from the Flames as they emerged with a key 5-4 victory over their divisional foe. One night later, San Jose played the perfect road game behind Alex Stalock, downing the Jets by a 4-1 margin.
