It was quite another exciting week of hockey by the San Jose Sharks as they continued their best stretch of the season. Despite a tough 3-2 overtime defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings last night, San Jose was able to extend their season-best point streak to nine games as they’ve gone 7-0-2 during that stretch.

– A rare matinee contest at SAP Center turned into quite the hockey game as the Sharks and Minnesota Wild squared off on Saturday afternoon. In a back-and-forth game that appeared destined for overtime, Joe Pavelski stepped up and snapped home his league-leading eighth game-winning goal of the season as San Jose prevailed with a 4-3 victory.

– Two days before the thrilling win over Minnesota, the Sharks traveled to the desert to take on the upstart Arizona Coyotes for the first time this season. San Jose came out of the gates strong with two first period goals en route to a 3-1 victory as the Sharks leapfrogged the Coyotes in the division standings.
– Despite all the success San Jose has found recently, the rumors surrounding Patrick Marleau wanting a trade from the only franchise he’s ever known continue. It will be interesting to see what Doug Wilson decides to do as the trade deadline approaches next month.
– As many of you know, the Sharks are celebrating their 25th anniversary as an organization. Last week, San Jose announced their 25th Anniversary team highlighted by forwards Joe Thornton, Owen Nolan and Marleau along with defensemen Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Brent Burns with Evgeni Nabokov between the pipes.
– Coming off one of his best performances of the season, the Sharks turned to Alex Stalock as San Jose played host to the Ottawa Senators. Unfortunately, too many mistakes by Stalock and his defense saw San Jose’s five-game winning streak come to an end as Ottawa left SAP Center with a 4-3 shootout win.
– With the Sharks playing so well, Wilson has been known to add pieces at the trade deadline. However, San Jose should stand pat at the deadline especially since they don’t have much cap space to work with.
– Finally, the San Jose Barracuda were able to get head coach Roy Sommer his 635th career AHL victory, one shy of the all-time record. The Barracuda have been unable to see Sommer tie the record as their nine-game point streak was snapped.
