The San Jose Sharks potentially have interest in Evander Kane, the latest link according to TSN.
The consistency in high profile wingers continues for the San Jose Sharks with the Kane rumors. Here’s the skinny:
“The Sharks and GM Doug Wilson are believed to be interested in Kane, but only to a certain point. They also don’t have second or third-round picks this summer.
While Kane could be a nice potential fit in the Bay Area, he probably makes more sense as a player you plan to keep long-term. It’s possible for the Sharks to do that cap-wise, but Wilson is believed to be stockpiling ammo for a potential run at John Tavares this summer.” (TSN)
Kane is a good hockey player. That said, there has to be a reason that both of the teams he played for soured on him and wanted him gone. Especially when both could have used his services.
The Jets actually downgraded on the wing in the return with the Kane deal. They probably could have acquired Tyler Myers, the main piece in the trade, by just dealing Bogosian and some more pieces.
He’s a positive 5v5 player relative to his team, but there has to be more to the story behind the scenes. This is coupled with the fact that Jason Botterill is out of his mind with regards to the asking price for the winger.
The Price
Botterill allegedly wants a first round pick, a prospect, a roster player and a conditional pick. Thanks, but no thanks. Kane is a rental. You don’t pay that kind of price for a rental winger who has eclipsed 43 points once in his career – a season seven years ago.
There are two better wingers potentially available in Max Pacioretty and James van Riemsdyk. If you want a high quality winger, swing back to those two and forget about the player that two teams gave up on.
