Logan Couture has shown season after season that he is one of the best playoff performers for the San Jose Sharks and this year has been no different. He now leads all skaters in the playoffs with 9 goals and 12 points.
Logan Couture has always been one of the NHL’s best come playoff time and he has had a playoff to remember thus far. Couture has an NHL leading 9 goals and 12 points in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and is freshly coming off his first career playoff hat trick for the San Jose Sharks in Game 3.
The 30-year-old forward has historically been a huge playoff performer for the Sharks and has played in 106 playoff games in his career. In those 106 games, Couture has recorded 43 goals and 50 assists giving him 83 points.
In the 2015-16 season when the San Jose Sharks advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals, Couture set a franchise record tallying 30 points (10 goals and 20 assists) in the playoffs. He became just the 29th player in NHL history to reach the 30 point mark in a single playoff season.
The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been no different from the rest as Couture has erupted while leading the Sharks. The 2007 9th overall pick has recorded points in 8 of the 10 games so far including three multi-point games.
Couture started off his incredible playoff run by tallying an assist on Hertl’s empty net goal in Game 1 against Vegas to seal a 5-2 victory.
The scoring continued in Game 2 of that series for Couture where he potted a goal and dished out an assist giving him his 24th career multi-point playoff game.
Logan extended his playoff point streak to three games when he netted another goal in a losing effort in Game 3 against Vegas.
After the San Jose Sharks were shutout in Game 4, Couture scored a goal in the first period of Game 5 to give the Sharks an early 2-0 lead en route to a crucial 5-2 win for Team Teal while facing elimination.
In another must-win game for the San Jose Sharks, Logan opened up the scoring in Game 6 with a rocket from just inside the blue line that soared past Fleury late in the first period. This would stand as the Sharks only goal in regulation in a game where Hertl scored the game winner in double overtime to force a Game 7.
In one of the greatest games in Sharks franchise history, Couture played a crucial role in a comeback for the ages. As the Sharks trailed the Golden Knights 3-0 with just under 11 minutes to play, they headed on a five minute power play after Pavelski was taken out and had to be carried off the ice.
Just seven seconds into the major penalty, Couture sent a shot off of a cross ice pass from Labanc past Fleury to get the Sharks on the board and give them life. In one of the most iconic moments in the game, Couture turned to the Sharks bench after scoring and yelled, “That’s one” setting the tone for the rest of the power play.
After Hertl deflected a shot from Erik Karlsson into the net to cut the deficit to one, Couture with 7:07 left in the game and 1:21 left in the major penalty tied the game off a perfect pass from Burns igniting the Tank.
Coming off an emotional Game 7 win, the Sharks took Game 1 by a score of 5-2 against Colorado where Couture recorded an assist on the first goal of the game scored by Nyquist.
Heading to Colorado with the series knotted up at a game apiece after falling in Game 2, the San Jose Sharks were looking for someone to step up and deliver a big performance. That performance came from no other than Logan Couture.
Couture opened up the scoring late in the first period as he backhanded a rebound past Grubauer to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
After the Avalanche scored two unanswered goals to tie up the score at two, Logan regained the lead for Team Teal off a top corner shot only 1:15 after Colorado tied the game. This would end up being the game-winning goal in a huge win to regain the series lead.
With just 30 seconds remaining in the game, Logan Couture added an empty net goal to complete the hat trick and seal the win for the Sharks.
Logan “Clutchure” has come up huge for the Sharks so far during these playoffs as he always has in the past. The Sharks will continue to look for him to come up big in crucial moments as they push through the playoffs with the hopes of bringing the Stanley Cup to the Bay Area for the first time.
