Joachim Blichfeld’s perspective is part seven of a series that will be highlighting some of the prospects within the San Jose Sharks organization.

The San Jose Sharks have quite a few forwards on their organizational depth chart that had breakout years during their 2018 – 2019 campaigns. None was a bigger surprise to fans of Team Teal than Joachim Blichfeld.

The 21-year-old exploded onto the scene last season during his time with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Blichfeld accumulated 114 total points, compiling 53 goals in just 68 games in the 2018 – 2019 regular season. This was a substantial leap from his 58 point campaign during the previous season, per eliteprospects.

As his point totals suggest the native Dane is highly regarded for his scoring prowess. Blichfeld is a versatile winger who can play on both sides of the ice. He’s made a reputation in the junior ranks of making his opponents lives miserable inside the offensive zone with his superior vision, slick skating ability, and a wicked right-handed shot.

Not only has he shown that he’s able to put up consistent numbers throughout the regular season. Blichfeld’s exhibited that he’s able to showcase his high-end skill in big moments. Most notably in on the world stage in Junior tournaments for Denmark and his two postseason stints with the Portland Winterhawks.

More from Prospects

Some may argue that Joachim’s emergence could be in part of that fact that he played alongside Vegas Golden Knights top ranked prospect Cody Glass. However looking at it from a different perspective one can make the claim that Blichfeld’s able to keep up high-caliber talent. It’s easy to imagine this type of chemistry being replicated with any one of the talented centers on the Sharks roster.

At 6-2 187 pounds, Blichfeld has a wiry frame and will still need to add-on some weight to take on the stress of a full regular season in the professional ranks. Nevertheless the San Jose Sharks highly regard the young winger and anticipate that he will make significant strides during his time within the Team Teal’s farm system.
