According to San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, the Barracuda have made an unfortunate announcement that Cam Lund, Ethan Cardwell, and Shane Bowers will be done for the season, due to upper-body injuries.
For Lund, this brings an end to his first full pro season, after playing 11 games with the Sharks at the tail end of last season following his ELC signing. With the barracuda Lund has been solid, putting up 25 points in 37 games with 9 goals. He was also the Barracuda’s representative for the AHL all-star game when Bystedt couldn’t go due to injury.
Cam Lund, who was drafted in the 2nd-round back in 2022, looks like he could be a solid potential piece for the Sharks down the road. While he doesn't project to be a top-6 contributor, his size, shot, and attention to detail make him an interesting project for a bottom-of-the-lineup role in the near future.
Ethan Cardwell is another major loss for the Cuda. Cardwell has established himself as a consistent scorer in the AHL for the Cuda, scoring 43 and 48 points in the prior two campaigns. This season has been a tough one for Cardwell, however, as he has been limited to just 24 games and 15 points at the AHL level, while also getting into 7 games for the Sharks. Losing Cardwell for the year also hurts the Sharks' depth, as Cardwell has been one of their top call-ups if they need a bottom-of-the-lineup contributor.
The undersized winger’s game is built on his effort and energy, and while he is not the most skilled player, he can add value to an NHL 4th line on occasion. Cardwell's future is likely capped as a solid AHL scorer, but nonetheless, he is one of the Cuda’s best players and a major loss for them down the stretch.
Shane Bowers was acquired from the Devils this offseason for Thomas Bordeleau. The former 1st-round pick has not worked out so far in his career; he has 4 points in 23 AHL games and has struggled to score at the AHL level.
