Macklin Celebrini will provide a lot to the future of the San Jose Sharks
When the NHL entry draft begins on June 28th and 29th, the Sharks will hold the first and fourteenth overall picks on day one, and this class looks great. Exceptionally deep on the blue line, the Sharks can address a few needs regarding the pipeline and the future of the organization. With the first overall pick, the expected and confirmed choice is Boston University's Macklin Celebrini. He's been the projected first-overall pick since the draft's conclusion last year.
Knowing that what lay ahead would be the cream of the crop from this draft class, Celebrini's expectations have bounced around anywhere from that of a true star to someone who is probably better suited to the second-line center role, but there is a great player here with outstanding potential that will be coming to the Bay Area to wear the teal of the Sharks.
In his first year at Boston College, Celebrini scored 32 goals and 32 assists for 64 points in 38 games, winning the Hobey Baker as the most valuable player of the college landscape. In his first year in college, because at this point we don't know if he will return for a second or jump straight into the NHL, Celebrini has proven to be a great player against those in his peer group. Knowing that he can be the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future, it's good to see he can dominate the competition.
With Celebrini, the Sharks are getting their game-breaking talent to play down the middle for years. We know that the Sharks need the players down the middle to support their future core.
