As free agency goes on, the San Jose Sharks continue to add bulk and depth to the roster. With the addition of Jacob Trouba on the blue line and now Mason Marchment, the Sharks are becoming a force to be reckoned with.
The first contract to come out of free agency for the Sharks was Marchment, signing a five-year, $33.75 million contract. Marchment is not only a fun player, he is also a San Jose Sharks legacy. Marchment is the son of Bryan, who played 334 games in a teal sweater. Bryan Marchment was also involved in scouting for the Sharks, up until his sudden death in 2022. Spending some of his childhood years in San Jose, Mason Marchment is excited for this next chapter.
Marchment is an interesting player, both able to produce offensively while also getting under his opponent’s skin. In short, Marchment is an absolute menace, standing at 6-foot five inches, and is even more annoying to opponents in the fact he backs up his torment with skill. This past season in 68 games played, spanning time in Seattle and Columbus, Marchment recorded 45 points (19G, 26A) with a +17. In his seven seasons in the NHL, Marchment has only recorded less than 50 points twice.
Additionally, Marchment is going to be a blast on the wing of Kiefer Sherwood. Sherwood is another player who gets under the skin of his opponents. A quick skater and smart playmaker, Sherwood will greatly benefit from Marchment’s big body and his passing abilities. With those two on a line, there are many powerplays in the future.
With new giants on the blue line, depth in the forward group, and incoming talent, the Sharks are on their way to becoming a genuine threat in the league. Before the NHL knows it, the Sharks will be competing for a Stanley Cup.
