Toronto Maple Leafs
You'd think with all the talent the Toronto Maple Leafs possess among the forwards, they'd be content. However, Chris Johnston on Insider Trading suggests that the Leafs still want another centerman to ensure solid depth down the middle for the postseason. With John Tavares on the decline after his seven-year deal in Toronto and Auston Matthews unable to play 60 minutes, a player like Granlund could be a good fit for Toronto.
The Leafs have a few bad contracts that the Sharks could take on with some draft picks or prospects as compensation, and there is a relationship between Grier and Brad Treliving, as we saw with the trade that brought defenseman Timothy Liljegren to the Bay Area. San Jose could make this work if the Leafs are willing to match the price it'll cost them to acquire Granlund.
Now, Toronto doesn't have its first-round pick this year. While they do have Florida's second-round pick, it would have to be Toronto's first-round pick the year after in order to make this deal feasible. If you then consider the price for San Jose taking on deals like Ryan Reaves or David Kampf, this could be something like the 1st, a mid-round pick like a third because it is a different year, and a prospect or two, it would be extremely complicated because of all the moving parts.
