Carolina Hurricanes
The NHL's answer to "Forever the Bridesmaid and Never the Bride," the Carolina Hurricanes are still ticking along towards the top of the NHL standings. They've touched on the boundaries of elite competition for many years, but a lack of star power has often caused their downfall in the postseason. The Sharks might make this work as another team with a hole down the middle behind Sebastian Aho and a few fellow Finns on the roster.
Carolina's cap space situation is complicated. They don't have much cap space, but that is partly because they have Jesper Fast out for the year, and Frederik Andersen is out for a few months. With Fast's contract expiring this summer, San Jose could take the deal on if the Canes want to move it out the door and let the Sharks take on the cap hit. San Jose has the cap space to eat it comfortably.
There is a dislike for rentals in Carolina, and Granlund goes against many aspects of Rod Brind'amour's system. He's not the fleetest of foot or the greatest defensively, but he is a deadly offensive threat. Carolina possesses one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL, so the Sharks should be trying to swing this deal however they can. It's a great way to continue to build a bright future for Team Teal.
