Much of the focus for Sharks fans has been the chaos of free agency and the new players/contracts that come with it.  However, there is a plethora of talent that already exists within the organization. Two, in particular, are seemingly ready to make the jump.

Scouts and player development coaches alike have repeatedly sung the praises of Quentin Musty and Filip Bystedt, claiming the pair are ready to take the next step and join the NHL.  Thanks to the Timo Meier trade in 2023, the Sharks obtained the 26th overall pick in that year’s draft which happened to be used on Musty.  Bystedt was drafted the year prior at 27th overall.

Quentin Musty is a creative player with great passing vision.  Standing at 6-foot two inches, the 21-year-old played 61 games in the AHL with the Barracuda and recorded 45 points (21G, 24A).  61 games evidently was enough for Sharks management to gauge his skill, and have been praising his talents since the end of the season.  It would not be surprising if fans saw more of Musty next season.

Additionally, there would be no surprise at more appearances by Filip Bystedt.  Bystedt made remarkable progress over the past season, going from 31 points (12G, 19A) in 50 games played with the Barracuda last season to 60 points (22G, 38A) in 65 games played this  past season. Having worked hard to prove his worth, this versatile forward who can play both center and left wing is a valuable addition to the organization’s elite group of forwards.

The new additions to San Jose through free agency are certainly exciting, however there is plenty of talent already in the Sharks’ system.  With two players like Quentin Musty and Filip Bystet ready to make the leap to the NHL, plus incoming young talent like Ivar Stenberg, the Sharks are ready to become a serious offensive threat.
