San Jose kicked off their festivities during their home opener against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 10 when they raised a banner in honor of founding owner George Gund III.

According to the Sharks release, there will be a video tribute for the former players, a ceremonial first puck drop and appearances on both the television and radio broadcasts. San Jose does a nice job of recognizing and remembering their former players, and some of the Sharks greats are indeed going to be brought back.

The highlights have to be Owen Nolan on No. 7 who is perhaps the most beloved captain in franchise history. His passion and drive helped put Sharks hockey on the map and raised the expectations of the organization.

Also, Mike Ricci on Jan. 9 is sure to be another highly anticipated night. Despite playing only a few seasons, Ricci was a fan favorite and endeared himself to the San Jose fans with his play. His continued involvement with the Sharks will only make his reception that much more special.

There are so many interesting names that span the generations such as Igor Larionov who was one of the best players to ever don a teal sweater to Ryane Clowe, who had to step away from the game due to concussion issues. Also, Marco Strum and Jeff Friesen were young players who got their start in San Jose and made quite the impact.

And finally, the best might be saved for last in remembering Evgeni Nabokov who will challenge Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau for the title of most revered Sharks player ever.

Every night should be a fun way to celebrate some of the best players to ever skate through the Sharks head.
