San Jose Sharks News And Notes – Barclay Goodrow Reassigned

facebooktwitterreddit

The San Jose Sharks and Peter DeBoer are searching for the right combination right now as the Sharks are floundering along as losers of six of their last eight games. With that in mind, San Jose announced earlier today that the team had reassigned forward Barclay Goodrow and defenseman Karl Stollery to the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL.

The decision to send Stollery back down comes as no surprise as he only spent one day with the Sharks. However, the decision to send Goodrow to the Barracuda is a little surprising as he has featured in all 12 games for the Sharks this season. He’s posted three assists with an even rating, 11 penalty minutes and seven shots on goal in 10:28 of ice time.

At this point in time, a corresponding move hasn’t been made as San Jose will face the Florida Panthers tomorrow night at SAP Center. For Goodrow and the rest of his teammates, this could be a wake-up call that players need to step up and start producing. The Sharks are getting solid production from their top-tier talent, but their depth guys haven’t delivered enough.

It will be interesting to see if the organization decides to bring up some more offensive talent in the form of Nikolay Goldobin. Regardless, San Jose needs some sort of spark to get them going.

Joel Ward Named Sharks Player of the Month

On a positive note, the franchise announced that Joel Ward was the recipient of the Sharks Foundation Player of the Month for his play in October. Ward led all San Jose players with seven goals and 11 points during the month, his first one in teal after signing as a free agent over the summer.

Ward’s seven goals tied him for third across the entire league, highlighted by his second career hat trick that was recorded against the Carolina Hurricanes back on Oct. 24. In my own opinion and look at who the Sharks October MVP was, I went with Martin Jones due to his outstanding work in goal in establishing a new franchise shutout streak.

However, I have no problem with the decision to go with Ward as he’s made an immediate impact in San Jose. Without Ward’s goal-scoring prowess, who knows where the Sharks would be.

San Jose sure hopes that Ward, Jones and the rest of their teammates find some level of consistency to make the November Player of the Month race a little more competitive.
