The second day of free agency has proved to not be as quiet for Doug Wilson and company as people had anticipated. Already today, the Sharks have signed John Scott (Why? I have no idea) and Taylor Fedun; both to one year deals.
Now comes the most recent news of the day: the Sharks have traded for Tye McGinn from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2015 third round draft pick.

With this signing, Doug Wilson is actually staying true to his word in his promise that the Sharks would be turning to the younger guys for the coming season (signing Scott didn’t seem to have this strategy in mind).
McGinn (23), who has played 36 games for the Flyers across two seasons, has never gotten an extended call up to the NHL. In his NHL games for the Flyers, McGinn posted seven goals and and three assists.
This trade seems to work out for both sides. The Flyers are in dire need of draft picks in 2015 and the Sharks are looking to replenish their roster with younger players. There are still some people out there that believe that McGinn still has top six potential. Here’s to hoping that comes true.
And, yes, he is Jamie McGinn’s brother.
