The current San Jose Sharks squad has a wide variety of personalities, but there’s only one Daddy they all look up to. Jason Demers is one of the team’s top young defensemen coming off of a productive season with the Sharks.

2013-14 Review

In the 2013-2014 campaign, Demers played a 34 point season, with five goals and 29 assists logged in 75 games played. Ending the season with 14 plus/minus, Demers remains one of the top defensemen for the Sharks.

Demers adds another layer of depth for the Sharks. He doesn’t necessarily contribute to scoring as much as more forward-minded defensemen like Brent Burns, but he has the ability to put on more shots on net and play a significant hand in helping his teammates score. He keeps the puck moving in the offensive zone and has an eye for a player in the right slot. His addition in 2008 gave the Sharks the structural reinforcement they were looking for and he still provides the backing the Sharks need.

As a gritty player, he provides a solid presence that goalies Antti Niemi or Alex Stalock can be confident in. Young players like Demers, Matt Irwin and Justin Braun are going to be shoved even further in the limelight this upcoming season having to provide adequate backup to veteran d-men Burns and Marc Edouard-Vlasic. What’s left in the air, however, is who he’ll be playing with.

Offseason Events

During the offseason, Jason Demers was given a two-year extension worth $6.8 million.

2014-15 Prediction

With his new contract, Demers will prove to be well worth the Sharks’ money. He can only get better from this point onwards. He will be able to meet all of his previous records easily if he remains uninjured and is given the same, if not more, ice time. This next season will have the fans seeing Demers as another Sharks defensive mainstay, helping his team deeper in the season.

Daddy will be sure to set up the foundation for all his kids to skate on.
