San Jose Sharks: Logan Couture Steps Up Leadership

There’s no doubt that Logan Couture has been a key player for the San Jose Sharks since joining the club.

2013-14 Season Review

Battling a hand injury towards the end of the season, Couture only played in 65 regular season games. He recorded 23 goals and 31 assists for a total of 54 points. He played through his injury throughout seven playoff games and managed one goal and two assists.

Couture agreed to a five-year contract extension mid-season and has a lot to prove in the coming year.

Offseason Events

Couture has been vocal about his disappointment of the Sharks playoff experience. “I just think about how much it hurts,” said Couture. “The feelings aren’t going to go away; probably never. It’s just something that sticks with you for a long time.” Now he plans to work through the pain and use it to motivate everyone in the coming season.

Hand surgery was also among offseason events for Couture to repair a broken hand injured in a Game 6 fight against Mike Richards. He is expected to be healed completely by the start of Training Camp next week. Couture has become one of the backbone players for this club and if something happens where he is not healthy enough to play, expect this to show in results for the team.

Couture has also been involved with various community events throughout San Jose. Most recently has been organizing a fundraiser to help search for missing girl, Sierra LaMar.

2014-15 Prediction

With his hand healthy, Couture is expected to have an excellent upcoming season. And with the captaincies being stripped from the previous holders, it is expected that Couture may be wearing a letter on his sweater after the conclusion of Training Camp. There is no doubt that he will still have a top center line position and will likely play alongside Patrick Marleau, as the two played the majority of last season together. Couture will continue to be one of the top players on the ice and there’s no doubt that he can continue with what have been his best years in hockey.
